Last Saturday the dam came alive with laughter, friendly rivalry and the steady slap of water as families, friends and neighbours gathered for the annual Kaalvoet Ligbaken Fishing Competition. Anglers of all ages cast their lines not just for the biggest catch, but to reel in support for our local school’s vital projects — from maintenance of change rooms and toilets to therapy for underprivileged learners.

Highlights from the day included a junior anglers’ heat full of enthusiasm, a surprise biggest-catch by a newcomer and generous prize donations from local businesses. While trophies and prizes made for great photos, the real win was the community spirit: volunteers setting up stalls, parents cheering on children, and sponsors covering costs so all proceeds go straight to the school.
